Reem Acra has built genuine relationships across the Middle East over decades — as a member of Fashion Trust Arabia’s advisory board, as a frequent visitor to the region, and as a designer with a loyal clientele there. For pre-fall, she made those relationships the explicit foundation of the collection, dedicating it to her Middle Eastern clients and building around their needs with care rather than assumption.

The practical considerations were real. In Qatar, where the Fashion Trust Arabia awards took place this year, dress codes require women to cover from shoulder to knee. Acra responded with a strong offering of modest gowns — several with a quiet menswear edge, featuring sharp pointed collars and cummerbund-inspired waistbands that gave structured elegance to the more covered silhouettes. Beaded embellishments appeared throughout, as they always do in Acra’s world.

The standout piece, however, was the caftan — a house favourite, here reimagined in a new featherlight cloqué fabrication that the designer says is even lighter than her previous versions. In gleaming gold and adorned with crystals at the chest, it functions as the ideal throw-it-on piece for the kind of humid Lebanese summers Acra knows well. The practical detail that sealed its appeal: it folds into a tote bag. Acra soft-launched it on the red carpet at the Fashion Trust awards, where it was already drawing attention before the collection was formally presented. For a piece that glamorous to also be that packable is, genuinely, a difficult thing to pull off.

The broader ambition of the collection was universality — clothes that could work across different cultural contexts, different dress codes and different occasions without losing their essential character. Acra, who moves comfortably between those worlds, made that argument convincingly.
