Patrick McDowell’s collection moved away from red-carpet fantasy and focused instead on the wardrobe of a busy, highly social woman with a full calendar.
Since launching ready-to-wear, McDowell has seen customers shopping for a wide range of occasions, inspiring him to create pieces that could carry women through everything from daytime events to everyday responsibilities. The runway reflected that idea through bright, optimistic colors and polished yet versatile silhouettes. A tailored jacket might be paired with a pencil or A-line skirt for a luncheon, then styled with jeans for a more casual outing.
McDowell described his approach as equal parts design and client, emphasizing his identity not only as a designer but also as a dressmaker. The focus was on creating clothes for real women and their lives, rather than simply producing dramatic runway pieces.
The collection drew inspiration from Wong Kar-wai’s In the Mood for Love, his boyfriend’s favorite film, bringing a sensual, understated elegance to cheongsam-inspired dresses and tailoring that emphasized the shoulders.
He also looked to early-1960s American socialites Lee Radziwill and Jackie Kennedy. Their refined wardrobes inspired pastel skirt suits, streamlined shift dresses and coordinated coats and dresses, reinterpreted with a lighter and more liberated approach to Parisian couture.
McDowell described the collection as a hopeful reflection on an era when social change and fashion were evolving together, expressing a desire for greater love and acceptance in the present.
The collection also introduced a second collaboration with Aspinal of London, featuring hand-painted and embroidered totes and clutches. A new creative partnership with Pandora brought jewelry into the clothes themselves, with three runway looks hand-embroidered in London and richly decorated with a mix of archival and current-season pieces.
