Zendaya is taking her latest fashion inspiration beyond the usual luxury houses, turning the spotlight on emerging London label Selasi. With the help of her longtime stylist Law Roach, the actor recently stepped out in a look from designer Ronan McKenzie’s Spring 2027 collection, bringing the young brand into the global fashion conversation.

Earlier this week, Zendaya appeared alongside her Dune: Part Three co-star Timothée Chalamet in a promotional video wearing the collection’s third runway look. The ensemble featured a sleeveless halter-neck top and relaxed barrel-leg trousers in sandy suede tones, a subtle nod to the desert-inspired world of the science-fiction franchise.

The outfit came from Selasi’s “Going Places” collection, which made its runway debut in an unconventional setting: a mechanic’s garage during London Fashion Week. It was only McKenzie’s second presentation on the official schedule, and the designer chose to showcase her work on people from her own community, including her mother, British Vogue contributing editor Zezi Ifore, and entrepreneur Charlene Prempeh.

The casting reflected the collection’s central message that fashion should be made to exist beyond the runway. McKenzie envisioned versatile pieces that could be worn by people of different ages, backgrounds, and body types. The presentation also brought renewed attention to 59-year-old model Evelyn Effrim-Botchey, whose appearance helped launch her into a new chapter, including opportunities on some of Paris’s most prestigious runways.

For Roach, dressing Zendaya in Selasi is part of a wider commitment to supporting designers who are still building their names. Although he has access to the biggest luxury fashion houses—and has gone to extraordinary lengths to secure exclusive runway pieces for his client—he regularly uses Zendaya’s international visibility to introduce new creative voices.

Her previous Dune promotional tour featured designs by Torishéju and Paolo Carzana. She has also shown early support for designers such as Peter Do and Maximilian Davis, helping bring their work to a much wider audience.

For an emerging designer, being selected by Zendaya and Roach can represent a significant career breakthrough. In an industry where gaining recognition is notoriously difficult, a moment like this can open doors, attract new audiences, and create opportunities far beyond the original runway presentation.

McKenzie has previously spoken about the persistence required to succeed in fashion, acknowledging that hard work does not always lead to immediate rewards. Her message, however, remains simple: keep pushing, start again when necessary, and never give up.

With Zendaya now wearing Selasi on a major promotional platform, McKenzie’s determination is beginning to deliver the visibility she has worked toward. The collection may be called “Going Places,” but its influence is already travelling much further than the designer’s London runway.
