Henry Zankov made his debut as Diane von Furstenberg’s creative director at New York Fashion Week S/S ’27, bringing the expected wrap dresses, fluid fabrics, and eye-catching prints—including plenty of leopard. But the collection also delivered an unexpected beauty highlight: a striking new manicure trend. Editorial nail artist Miss Pop created what she calls the “sunglass nail,” and it could be one of the fashion crowd’s biggest nail looks this fall.
The concept is fairly literal: nail polish takes on the qualities of sunglasses—slightly tinted, semi-sheer, and polished enough to act as the finishing touch to an outfit. “With the glass nail trend taking over, we wanted to give it a more sheer, modern twist,” Miss Pop explains. The result is an effortlessly cool manicure inspired by the subtle tint and glossy finish of a favorite pair of sunglasses.
The collection’s palette provided much of the inspiration, with rich browns, vibrant greens, and sheer fabrics informing the color choices. However, the real secret lies in the application. All you need is a slightly sheer polish and a high-shine top coat. For the show, Miss Pop used products from Essie’s Special Effects range, featuring holographic, duochrome, and light-reflecting pigments.
Recreating the look at home is surprisingly simple and takes just two or three coats. Start with a single layer of polish to maintain that sheer, jelly-like effect. For added dimension, layer a complementary shade over it.
The final—and most important—step is a high-shine top coat. Look for one that leaves the nails intensely glossy and glass-like, giving the manicure its signature depth and reflective finish. The result is a sleek, translucent look that feels modern, understated, and undeniably chic.

Part of the Liquid Diamonds collection, this shade is a stunning chestnut brown with a golden shimmer undertone. It’s a bit deeper than a traditional copper and has a slight metallic finish.

If you’re not one to go all out with nail trends (hi, yes, me), I highly recommend this shade. It’s a pinky-beige neutral, but still has that duo-chrome finish you need to execute this trend.

Matcha shades (and perfumes) are everywhere right now. If this color is speaking to you, get it on ASAP while the weather still feels summery.
