Fashion by Valentino Haute Couture for their Spring/Summer 2026 range worked with both emotion and colour to showcase them literally and metaphorically to their maximum potential. The entrance of the actual runway began with a dramatic monochromatic presentation, only to be interspersed with saturated red, emerald green and electric blue hues of colour to provide stark contrast and visual punch which governed the entire ideology of this season’s collection – that being bold expressions through colour(s) in terms of design elements as well as overall aesthetics.
Silhouette were alternatingly composed of tailored men’s and women’s suits , as there were also flowing gowns and dresses . Tailored men’s suits were presented in a plethora of bold colours that were structured yet fluid. Flowing gowns/dresses featured multi-layered full ball gown (ballerina-style) style shapes made of chiffon and silk. Valentino , through Valentino’s design development lab (atelier), very accurately combined dramatically proportioned elements together with precise tailoring in order to provide statement-making haute couture.
Examples of head-to-toe embroidered pieces included numerous examples of hand embroidery placement motifs around the necklines and sleeves (collars) of numerous gowns. An outstanding example was an all-red gown that had sculptural drapery around the bodice and flowing cape-like fabric attached at the waist, draped like a handkerchief across the floor while remaining loose/flowing at the sleeve / wrist.
The visual consistency and pace of the overall presentation moved from/through understated tailoring, then progressively building to an eventual peak of extravagant evening wear. The integration of both the music and lights allowed for amplification/ accentuation of the overall emotional flow of the presentation and enabled the increased level of drama throughout the presentation.
Even though individual pieces have been fabricated purposefully to be theatrically inspired, the balance of both artistry and technique resulted in each individual piece and therefore the entire collection meeting the traditional definition of haute couture. In summary, Valentino’s Spring/Summer 2026 Collection reaffirmed haute couture’s role as an instrument through which we can express our identity in a bold manner. This season’s collections will ultimately serve as a testament to the very nature of haute couture and/or designer’s signature style, which will endure indefinitely.
