The preview for Johanna Parv’s fall collection was conducted in a state of beautiful chaos. Photos of the collection were spread across a high table as models arrived for casting. A rack toppled at some point. WhatsApp exchanges about bike-seat measurements — down to the millimetre, with doodled-upon photographs — were part of the conversation. Parv moved between discussing the clothes and assessing the damage without breaking stride. She also, in collaboration with Selle Royal, had made custom bike seats for guests to sit on at the show itself. Standard Johanna Parv, in other words.
The collection opened with a fitted jacket and trousers in soft nylon — ergonomic from top to bottom. Convenient storage attached to the lower back. A concealed front zip. Trouser cuffs designed for stretch. “Everything is ergonomic. Ergo, ergo, ergo,” Parv said, crouching to demonstrate the range of movement, then inviting the model wearing the look to do the same. A pair of flared trousers with a built-in skirt — a carryover style — confirmed the same efficiency principles in a different silhouette.
The most quietly inspired detail in the collection came from a real woman Parv had spotted on the street: suited up, cycling, trousers tucked, tote bag worn as a backpack, sheer stockings visible at the ankle. “It was so simple, so inspiring,” Parv said. That image of tights worn over trousers became a thread running through the collection — a flourish that added an unexpected, unpretentious sexiness to an otherwise streamlined wardrobe.
The range across the collection was considerable: a skirt inspired by one Parv’s mother made from men’s trousers; a quilted jacket; a water-repellent car coat; a molten tank dress punctuated with breathable holes; easygoing base-layer hoodies that have become consistent bestsellers. Smooth leather belts — buckle-free, pierced with triangular holes — cinched silhouettes throughout. “It’s more a story of the waist,” Parv said of her commuter muse. The whole collection was, as ever, built for someone who actually has somewhere to be and intends to get there under their own power.
