Cult Gaia FALL 2023 READY-TO-WEAR

Jasmin Larian Hekmat has no desire to create the ideal little black dress or pair of pants. To the contrary, her designs inspire the thought, “I’m going to wear this to a wedding and everyone is going to ask what it is,” as she puts it. Hekmat is not shy about accessorising with feathers, plissé, and fringe. The designer’s inspiration for the season came from the idea that “ice can make colours feel more iridescent,” which is represented in the frosted green and pink pleated elements throughout the collection and, most notably, in the look book set, which is modelled after a glacier.

The collection’s highlight is the mint strapless dress with the mermaid-like bodice, but the bright pink fringe midi-dress is likely to please the label’s die-hard customers as well. Take, for example, the crescent-shaped bag with a collection of gold beaded strands for a handle, or the emerald green evening bag with a straight bar handle and three tassels; each of these bags strive to be unique in the market. Hekmat places a premium on originality and novelty at all times. To paraphrase, “If you’re not going to want to put it in a box and display it, then what’s the point?”
