The London Fashion Week featured Burberry’s Autumn/Winter 2016 collection, which was a wonderful showcase of British culture presented in a modern context. The stage was set for the event with an amazing cloudy background, and there was a colour palette of warm tones used for the runway, therefore giving the event a mix of feelings of both romantic nostalgia and contemporary elegance.
The first look was an outfit featuring a bright green and red tartan plaid coat, oversized sunglasses, and an organic shaped (sculptured) green leather handbag. The coat was tailored so that it had a sharp silhouette, but was also easy to wear, which is what Burberry is known for. Throughout the entire collection classic checks were reinterpreted into new colours, such as, moss green, muted yellow and deep burgundy.
This season the look was very texture oriented. There were many textured garments; such as, embossed paisley printed trench style dresses, belted trench coats, and leather outerwear. The one specific piece that was memorable was the camel coloured trench coat, which was printed with intricate designs, but was tailored to create a strong yet feminine silhouette at the waist. The combinations of traditional and innovative craftsmanship were evident in all of the works.
There was also more of a delicate contrast shown through the use of short lace dresses in bright green and white than with the heavier outerwear garments. In addition, the short lace dresses were styled with knee-high boots and multiple layers of necklaces to further exemplify the brand’s ability to balance between structure and flow.
Accessories remained bold yet functional, oversized scarves, sculptural handbags, and tinted sunglasses completed many looks. The overall palette stayed rooted in earthy autumn tones, accented with pops of vibrant green and rich reds.
The finale brought back tailored coats and structured silhouettes, reinforcing Burberry’s core identity. The collection felt cohesive, polished, and commercially strong while still maintaining a narrative rooted in British heritage.
Burberry AW26 proves that tradition, when reimagined with confidence, remains timeless.
