For his Spring 2026 Ready-to-Wear collection, Bibhu Mohapatra found himself at a crossroads between personal healing and creative renewal. After years of grounding each season around a muse, his recent work has been shaped by the loss of his parents and brother, reflecting on grief and heritage. But this season, the designer fused those reflections with a revived sense of purpose and optimism, returning to his Indian roots and drawing inspiration from a new generation. Following a campaign shoot in Mumbai, where he collaborated with a young, spirited crew, Mohapatra was moved by their energy and by India’s growing inclusivity—especially a recent court ruling recognising trans women as legally women. At that moment, he said, expanded his vision of womanhood and motivated him to celebrate both the past and the future of Indian femininity.

The result was a collection that felt lighter, younger, and more hopeful than his recent offerings. Playful pieces like pastel pink satin cargo pants styled under a red kurta, or denim cargos paired with a rhinestone-encrusted crop top, gave a contemporary edge to Mohapatra’s signature elegance. Still, his penchant for opulent eveningwear remained—though the youthful direction hinted at a subtle shift in focus. His colour palette radiated optimism: bright chartreuse, soft pink, and spirited red evoked vibrancy and renewal. “I wanted this collection to be about hope, optimism, and a celebration of the people of India,” he said. “I wanted to make it happy.”

In blending tradition with a modern sensibility, Mohapatra built a bridge between generations—a tribute to India’s trailblazing women and a gesture of encouragement to those redefining identity and expression today.
