Met Gala 2024 fashion: The best looks from the red carpet
Celebrities gathered at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art on Monday night for the annual Met Gala, a lavish event that raises funds for the museum’s Costume Institute. Co-chaired by Zendaya, Jennifer Lopez, Bad Bunny, Chris Hemsworth, and Anna Wintour, this year’s gala featured a theme inspired by J.G. Ballard’s 1962 dystopian short story, “The Garden of Time.”
The dress code, “The Garden of Time,” inspired attendees to showcase floral and botanical motifs, as well as creative interpretations of decay and ruin. Designer Harris Reed accompanied Demi Moore on the red carpet, revealing that her gown took 11,000 hours of silk embroidery and was crafted from vintage wallpaper, portraying a Victorian concept of blooming amidst thorns.

Lana Del Rey’s custom Alexander McQueen dress depicted a garden’s overgrowth, adorned with hand-embroidered thorny bronze-colored branches inspired by artist Alberto Giacometti’s sculptures, forming a tulle headpiece reminiscent of cobwebs.

Elle Fanning’s sheer Balmain gown featured sleeves seemingly drawn up by birds, made of resin to create a glass-like effect, while Janelle Monae’s shell-sequined dress and Greta Lee’s transparent lace gown reflected the delicate nature of flowers.

Some men opted for bold interpretations, such as model Wisdom Kaye, donning a head-to-toe red floral ensemble with burned edges, and Bad Bunny in a custom Maison Margiela outfit paired with a dramatic hat. Jeff Goldblum embraced the role of the story’s count, adding a touch of Oz with dark green-tinted sunglasses, fitting for his upcoming role in “Wicked” later this year.
