Oscars red carpet: black, metallics, mermaids

Hollywood’s A-listers walked the red carpet at Sunday’s Oscars ceremony at the Dolby Theatre, following a few tried-and-true trends: metallics are always glamorous and black is the color of choice.

See what the Hollywood elite sported to the Oscars:

Go back to black

German actress Sandra Hueller, who starred in “The Zone of Interest” and was nominated for best actress for “Anatomy of a Fall,” looked lovely in a wide-sculptural-necked black Schiaparelli gown as she prepared for her close-up at the Oscars.

A member of Hollywood’s elite with an EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony)—presenter Rita Moreno—arrived in a ruffled black gown. She paid homage to the late Chita Rivera, she told ABC, by donning a black wig.

An elegant double-breasted Louis Vuitton tuxedo with slightly flared trousers, intricate silver buttons, and an abundance of jewelry—including a magnificent brooch in his bowtie—made Colman Domingo, a best actor nominee for “Rustin” and a clear style star of this awards season, seem smart.

And when “High School Musical” star Vanessa Hudgens revealed her pregnancy to baseball player Cole Tucker, she wore a striking black long-sleeved bodycon dress that flaunted her growing baby belly.

Dazzling metals

Dressing like the golden statuette is a certain way to turn heads on the red carpet at the Oscars; metallics are always a safe choice.

Presenter Anya Taylor-Joy stunned in a sparkling, strapless Dior gown adorned with silvery sequins.

Nominated for best supporting actress for her role in “Barbie,” America Ferrera wore a figure-hugging sleeveless Versace gown that included pink and metallic accents, two hottest trends on the red carpet.

The stars of Greta Gerwig’s feminist surrealist fantasy about the legendary Mattel doll, Barbiecore, have been the talk of the town during awards season.

Dancing mermaids

The best actress Oscar winner Emma Stone, who plays the independent character Bella Baxter in “Poor Things,” wore a strapless, pale aqua Louis Vuitton dress with a long skirt and broad peplum, much like her onscreen character.

Wearing a gilded bodice and scarf tied to her wrists like floating sleeves, Hailee Steinfeld wore a gauzy aqua Elie Saab gown that seems to have gotten the mermaid memo as well.

“Wicked” team

‘Wicked’ star Ariana Grande and two-time Oscar nominee Cynthia Erivo brought their Oz energy to the Oscars stage. Grande will soon star in a two-part film adaptation of the renowned Broadway musical.

Wearing a voluminous-sleeved, strapless pink gown by Giambattista Valli Haute Couture, Grande embraced her inner Glinda.

In the meantime, Erivo looked like Elphaba in a ruffled, dark-green Louis Vuitton gown with a plunge neckline. The look was finished off by her verdant, pointed nails.

Vanity fair politics

The Oscars are typically a platform for political activity, and this year’s red carpet attendees were no strangers to the tragic struggle in Gaza between Israel and Hamas.

Artists4Ceasefire pins were worn by numerous contenders, including Oscar-winning artist Billie Eilish and her brother Finneas O’Connell, to show support for “an immediate de-escalation and ceasefire in Gaza and Israel.”

An orange hand holding a black heart is the focal point of the pin.

Stars Swann Arlaud and Milo Machado-Graner of “Anatomy of a Fall” proudly displayed the Palestinian flag on their lapels.
