Global communications giant The Independents acquires English agency Kennedy

The Independents, which has grown to include eleven enterprises, appears unstoppable. Karla Otto and K2 formed the consortium of creative firms, communication experts, and event planners in 2017. They have now acquired Kennedy, a company based in London that provides strategic advice and produces content for entertainment, culture, and brand-related endeavors. Only one month ago, we acquired Atelier Athem, an organization that focuses on advertising to fund the restoration of listed buildings and create temporary or permanent scenographies for companies. Now, we’re starting a new business.

Nobody knows how much the deal was worth. Fashion shows, presentations, pop-ups, soirées, product launches, and live performances are just a few examples of the kinds of events that Jan Kennedy’s name-brand firm generates since its founding in 2000. Notable fashion houses like Chloé, Loewe, Calvin Klein, Valentino, Marni, Zegna, Prada, Marc Jacobs, and Coty are among its clients.

Kennedy is a global creative and production company based in London that serves clients in the Americas, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. It employs up-and-coming artists, architects, musicians, theatergoers, and filmmakers and has built a strong network of international service providers over the past 20 years.

As important partnerships with group members like K2 in Asia have already shown, we are confident that its presence will provide many opportunities to the agencies that comprise The Independents,” stated Isabelle Chouvet, CEO of the group.

The Independents diversified in January of last year by bringing on board Atelier Athem, a 40-person company that had been established in Paris in 1985. More than fifty classified monuments and buildings, including the Palais Garnier, the Louvre Museum, the Musée d’Orsay, and the Hôtel de la Marine, have had restoration work funded by this institution, and more than 500 scenographic projects have been completed in the past decade. The firm sees it as an opportunity to launch a brand-new creative endeavor and product line that it intends to expand globally.

Eleven agencies—Atelier Athem, Atelier LUM, Bureau Betak & Bureau Future, CTZAR, INCA Productions, Karla Otto, K2, Kennedy, Lefty, The Qode, and Prodject—join forces to form these two new companies, enhancing The Independents’ ecosystem.

The group’s capital is provided by Banijay, a company of the European group FL Entertainment, and the Anglo-American fund TowerBrook Capital Partners. Its presence can be found in fifteen cities across the world: Milan, Paris, London, Munich, New York, Los Angeles, Hong Kong, Beijing, Shanghai, Singapore, Tokyo, Seoul, Dubai, Riyadh, and Jeddah.
