Matthew Barnes Named New President of Foot Locker International
Dick’s Sporting Goods has officially appointed Matthew Barnes as the new president of Foot Locker International, the division it acquired in September for $2.4 billion. Barnes will step into the role on December 3, reporting directly to Ed Stack, executive chairman of Dick’s.
In his new position, Barnes will oversee Foot Locker’s international operations, including its store network, e-commerce platforms, and digital activities across Europe, Asia, and Australia. He will also manage the brand’s presence in licensed stores throughout Europe, the Middle East, and Asia.
“Matthew is a highly experienced leader in international retail and has a deep understanding of the markets where Foot Locker operates,” said Lauren Hobart, president and CEO of Dick’s. “His expertise will strengthen our ability to create value for customers, brand partners, employees, and shareholders. We are excited to welcome him to the team.”
Barnes brings nearly three decades of global retail leadership, having held senior roles at Aldi Süd, where he served as Group CEO, and Tesco UK. His career spans the UK, Europe, China, Australia, and the United States, giving him a strong track record in transforming and scaling international brands.
The appointment comes as Foot Locker reported a 2.4% revenue decline in the second quarter, totaling $1.85 billion.
