Louis Vuitton is preparing a yearlong global celebration of its iconic Monogram canvas as it marks its 130th anniversary in 2026, rolling out three special-edition collections, immersive window displays, campaigns and pop-up experiences worldwide.

First created in 1896 by Georges Vuitton as an anti-counterfeiting measure, the brown-and-gold canvas has become one of luxury’s most recognizable symbols. Vuitton has previously celebrated the Monogram’s milestones with high-profile collaborations from Helmut Lang and Vivienne Westwood in 1996 to Karl Lagerfeld and Cindy Sherman in 2014 — but this anniversary will place renewed emphasis on heritage, craftsmanship and longevity.

From Jan. 1, Vuitton boutiques globally will showcase reproductions of the original Monogram patent and wooden stamping tools, alongside anniversary collections supported by dedicated campaigns and pop-ups. According to chairman and CEO Pietro Beccari, the initiative speaks to consumers’ growing desire for meaning, storytelling and savoir-faire behind luxury products.

The Monogram remains central to Vuitton’s most iconic bags, including the Speedy, Keepall, Noé, Alma, and Neverfull, all of which debuted clad in the canvas. Three anniversary ranges will launch in early 2026, with each piece marked by special labels and collectable details.

While the Monogram has been endlessly reinterpreted — from Stephen Sprouse’s graffiti and Takashi Murakami’s pop colors to Virgil Abloh’s experimental treatments and Pharrell Williams’ leather iterations — the 2026 celebration returns to its roots, spotlighting durability, functionality and emotional value.

One January campaign will feature vintage Monogram bags sourced from Vuitton’s archives and repair centers, highlighting the patina earned through daily use. A second campaign, launching in February, will spotlight celebrity devotees of the canvas.

Vuitton will also debut Monogram-dedicated pop-ups on Jan. 8 in Shanghai, New York, and Seoul, with additional activations planned throughout the year. The Monogram Origine pattern will extend into fragrances and travel accessories, reinforcing its cross-category appeal.

“Louis Vuitton bags are meant to be lived in,” Beccari said — designed not for display, but for daily use and generational transmission.
