Under the premise of “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion,” around fifty delicate and historically important artifacts from the Costume Institute’s collection get the spotlight this year. These works, titled “Sleeping Beauties,” have been meticulously curated and refined using state-of-the-art technology and methods, such as video animation, light projection, soundscaping, Pepper’s ghost illusion, and more. The sensory experience of the exhibition’s displays is the goal of the fashion show.

Honorary chairs Jonathan Anderson of Loewe Creative and TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew will be joining Zendaya, Jennifer Lopez, Chris Hemsworth, and Bad Bunny as co-chairs of the 2024 Met Gala. Zendaya stood out for her breathtaking ensembles, which included a one-of-a-kind Maison Margiela design and a vintage Givenchy show ensemble.

The 2024 Met Gala followed the theme of “The Garden in Time,” a short tale by J.G. Ballard. The Countess and Count Axel find themselves in a picturesque garden in Ballard’s story, which represents the transience of beauty and the inevitability of deterioration, as they are threatened by an invading mob. A variety of interpretations were encouraged for the theme, including references to nature, floral patterns, and avant-garde styles influenced by fairy tales.

The Met Gala, which Anna Wintour has been at the helm of since 1995, is a fundraiser for the Costume Institute of The Metropolitan Museum of Art. It takes place at the same time that the annual fashion exhibition opens.
