Cubitts’ first international store to open this month in NYC
The ten-year history of London-based eyewear business Cubitts is about to take an exciting turn as the company expands beyond its domestic market. The opening of the brand’s first flagship store in New York City will be a watershed moment in its expansion path; it will be the 17th store globally.
The main store, situated at 103 Mercer Street in New York City’s lively SoHo sector, is scheduled to open its doors on April 25th. The business aspires to satisfy the refined preferences of New York’s trendiest customers by offering prescription eyeglasses and sunglasses that are both classic and fashionable, made with high-quality British craftsmanship.
Last October, Cubitts celebrated its tenth anniversary. Now, the company is expanding into the US market to take advantage of the booming eyewear industry. Through its international e-commerce site and wholesale collaborations with prestigious shops like Saks Fifth Avenue and menswear brand ONS, the company has already established a devoted following in the US, despite its UK-centric visibility.
The new store, which occupies a building that was originally built in 1900, is influenced by Cubitts’ love of industrial design from the 20th century. The store’s seamless integration into SoHo’s Cast Iron District reflects the local neighborhood, legacy, and history.
In honor of the grand opening, Cubitts is releasing a new line of products influenced by famous New York City landmarks like The Mudd Club, Radio City Music Hall, and Studio 54. Customers will only be able to try on this limited edition collection, which includes seven separate pieces, at the store in New York.
American streamlining style, the charm of an Edward Hopper painting, and the avant-garde aesthetic of Andy Warhol’s Silver Factory are some of the influences on the 275 square foot store’s design. A dramatic S-shaped display and a tiny table with a mechanical, revolving mirror are two important parts of the store’s design that pay tribute to the architectural wonders of New York City and the sleek forms of spectacles.
In a statement highlighting Cubitts’ dedication to handcrafting and design excellence, founder Tom Broughton voiced his enthusiasm for the brand’s expansion into New York. The company is ready to make a mark in New York City’s thriving eyewear industry, with ambitions to become a part of the neighborhood and bring its famous British sensibility to the Big Apple.
