“In today’s world what do we want?” asked Tom Ford. “Beautiful, soft color; something with ease; something not aggressive, which is odd from me. I wanted beauty.”

Tom Ford opened for the New York Fashion Week’s Fall/Winter’19 showcasing with a collection that was elegant, sensual and polished. With a career spanning over three decade and across various designer houses, this years collection saw Ford bring back elements for the 90’s in his collection along with nods to his collections from the house of Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent from when he was associated with them.

This season’s palette ranged from soft pinks, blues, grays and flesh tones, along with shots of deep burgundy and men’s wear in grays and blacks. There were a lot of  silk blouses worn wide open; roomy, satin pleated relaxed trousers; blazers and tuxedo jackets, fur coats and slouchy bomber jackets. Simple and elegant evening gowns featured caped backs, cut-outs and heavy chain hardware and full fur fedoras. Snug knits or hooded sweatshirts were paired with blazers, furs, trench coats and pencil skirts instead of button-downs. Ford did bring the party feel back with the pointy toed ankle strap pumps, monk straps and velvet slippers.
