Spring/Summer 2020 Collection at NYFW: Christian Siriano
Spectacular is the word that comes to mind as one watches the models walk away the runway in Christian Siriano’s Spring/Summer 2020 Collection on day 2 of the New York Fashion Week. The designer presented a pop-art collection at the Gotham Hall in NYC. Siriano took inspiration from Louisiana artist and gallery owner, Ashley Longshore. “I was inspired by surrealism and a lot of Ashley Longshore’s work and playfulness and women’s empowerment. I love her use of color and texture, that mix of playfulness and seriousness.” So much so that the designer invited the artist to be a part of the show. Longshore took to the canvas and live painted some of Christian Siriano’s muses as the models walked the runway.
“I wanted the collection to feel playful, colorful, bright, and romantic but still powerful and exciting,”
The collection had 63 pieces in total and while the main focus was on evening wear and gowns, there were also options available in the form of jumpsuits, tops with skirts and sleek dresses to cater to a wider clientele. We loved the diverse color palette Christian Siriano picked this season. Other than classic black and whites, the designer played with hues of green, blues, pinks and yellow. Just as much the palette was diverse so was the materials the designer played with. There were eye catching motifs, a lot of ruffles, tulle’s, shines and beading. He also played with a variety of fabrics and laces this season.
Another thing we loved about the show was that there were male models on the runway in female attires. Talk about gender fluidity, and we are all game for it. The collection’s last pieces were gowns, with all the ruffles and elegance they were some of his pieces. We couldn’t take our eyes off the rainbow. With stars like Lucy Liu, Alicia Silverstone, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Ashley Graham, Marsai Martin, Jeannie Mai etc in attendance and with the award season around the corner, we are sure to see some of these gorgeous pieces on the red carpet soon.
