Jonathan Simkhai is often known to take inspiration from his Iranian grandfather’s lineage and his expertise in lace manufacturing. For the Fall/Winter’19 Showcasing Simkhai decided to inspire himself from his maternal grandmother’s Ukrainian lineage. Going through snapshots of the family and the traditional Ukrainian dresses, he realized that women of that era wore a scarf with just about anything and that is how he made scarf’s the focal point of this collection.

He replaced lace with scarf in all his designs for this collection. The collection saw scarves in almost all the pieces with rich, intricate patterns at the start of the lineup to the stunning gold scarf dress that closed the show. Trying to give an urban and modern twist to the whole collection, the scarf prints were also seen on trench coats, printed puffer jackets, slip dresses and draped frocks.
