Fall’19 Couture: Givenchy

“I wanted to step it up a notch for myself, to push it into something that has a little more theater. It’s the idea of an anarchic woman who comes through the château and all of the elements of what you’d find there. I like the idea that the château wasn’t perfect. It was part of the way I discovered the spirit and the girl of this show.”

With this statement, Clare Waight Keller, the artistic director of Givenchy presented the Fall’19 Couture Collection. The collection was titled “Noblesse Radicale,” which means “radical nobility.” The Collection was a modern spin on what royalties used to wear back in the 18th Century. Keller deconstructed this era and reconstructed with a wild spirit of her own.

The Collection started with a black and white dominance of dresses and gowns, followed by a palette of soft pink frocks and capes, yellowish golden in evening wear, shades of blue and lavender for silhouettes gowns. She used a lot of sequins work, floral motifs, lace, and brocade work for the women wear whereas the men had sequin work and embroidery on their pieces.

But her most beautiful pieces were the gowns with the feather work. The gowns had feathers sprouted from them and in Keller’s words represented “bird woman trapped in the house.” The feathers gave a whimsical look to the whole piece yet they somehow made the gown feel rooted. Overall the whole Fall’19 Collection was refreshing and gave Keller an opportunity to show her wilder spirit through the collection.
