Fall’19 Couture: Giambattista Valli
Giambattista Valli decided to ditch the runway this season and present his Fall’19 Couture Collection in a museum-like setup. Giving a miss to the runway, the collection was spread across three rooms showcasing what the designer described as the art of the atelier followed by his obsessions. The designer released a capsule collection in collaboration with H&M at the Cannes Film Festival in May bringing Haute Couture together with high street fashion.
“It’s extraordinary and unexpected. I never thought Giambattista Valli was so widely known and such an object of desire. In fact, we reached 600 million people through social media. It was a beautiful conversation.”
The showcasing took place at the Shangri-La hotel in Paris. The first room contained pieces depicting monogrammed white button-downs and tulle skirts. The next room showed bustier dresses and mini dresses. The designer used floral embroideries of orange blossoms, dahlias and roses in his pieces. The last room showed a balance of the work he had been doing with H&M. It was the complete opposite of the pieces he had been doing with a high street brand. Frothy frilled gowns, sweeping trains and cape backs in pale mint, peachy orange, and light blue highlighted the room. “They balance each other out. It’s really a luxury to take the time to do things,” Valli said.
