Fall’19 Couture: Elie Saab

There is hardly anyone who has been able to escape the fantasized realm that Elie Saab has created through his Haute Couture Collections. This season was no different. For the Fall’19 Couture Collection, Saab took inspiration from East Asian Culture and China. The designer was inspired by the mystical creatures and divine characters from stories which have been passed down through centuries from generation to generation. His collection notes quoted him as:

“I was drawn to East Asia’s rich culture, and the more I let my mind dive into it, the more I explored imperial volumes within the collection, using signature touches that remain true to the Maison.”

The construction and craftsmanship were exquisite and came harmoniously together. The creative director tried to mix traditional Chinese elements with modern elements. There were trains and slit gowns, various shoulder and sleeve kinds and robes all reinterpreted but staying true to the Maison. There were unique patterns in the form of sequins work and diamond work. Belts were the chosen piece of accessories as most of the pieces were tied together with a gold band belt. Abstract representations of flora and fauna could be seen throughout the pieces in a rich palette of explosive colors. The whole Fall’19 Collection was elegant and lavish, to say the least.
