Fall 2019 Couture: Zuhair Murad

It is no secret the love Zuhair Murad has for travel and new experiences. For the fall 2019 Couture Collection, Murad took inspiration from a recent trip to Morocco in North Africa. “Marrakech is a paradise; I fell in love. Such a cosmopolitan city. There’s so much heritage and tradition there, but it also has a modern vibe. It’s like Beirut but with a different style,” he said.

He took inspiration from everywhere he could find in North Africa: the tile work, the carpets textures, the tattoos of the local tribes, the floral and motifs, the prints and sequences. The color palette was a rich tone of purples, reds, greens, and gold. Black was another color used well by the designer. Blend this with a mix of Yves Saint Laurent from the ’70s and Voila!, the fall’19 Collection was ready.

Headbands played an important accessory this fall. “I loved the idea to do this headband, it reminds me of Saint Laurent, of many celebrities from the Seventies, they used to put the headband with messy hair, it’s so cool, I think,” Murad said. The whole collection consisted of dresses and gowns which were red carpet ready wear. There were some richly colored jacquards and hand-beaded jackets thrown in the mix. The beaded work in the pieces was exquisite. The intricate detailing and the designing of every piece made us realize why Zuhair Murad needed two fully staffed ateliers to complete the pieces.

A favorite amongst the brides, Zuhair Murad is known for his custom bridal outfits. He did not disappoint the would-be brides this time either. His final piece was an ivory bridal gown with an abstract floral-carpet pattern in tonal crystals and sequins that could be any bride’s dream gown. In his own words, Murad said that the gown was designed keeping in mind a real-life princess.
