Fall 2019 Couture: Viktor & Rolf

“Glamour” has always been associated with appeal and beauty.  For their Fall’19 Couture Collection,  designer duo Viktor & Rolf set out to find the original meaning of the word. The ancient meaning of the word meant casting a spell or an illusion cast by the witches. It was mostly done to change a negative feeling or environment into a positive one. Keeping this as the source of inspiration, Viktor Horsting and Rolf Snoeren designed the Fall’19 Collection aptly titling it, “Spiritual Glamour.”

The designer duo teamed up with fellow Dutch artist Claudy Jongstra, the person responsible for recreating the Burgundian Black process. It involves creating the purest and the darkest tone of black dyes with a red under color. The process involves using natural ingredients and ancient recipes which Jongstra experimented with. The color was the focus which Viktor & Rolf decided to work around.

The Collection which started with a dark black ankle-length coat slowly shifted colors, design, and patterns as it went shifted from blacks to hints of reds and oranges like a sunrise to finally moving to flowers and butterflies. The collection consisted mostly of coats and dresses in various silhouette and patterns. The models were given a punk witch look which was not over the top but subtle and balanced.
