72nd Cannes Film Festival: The Opening Days
The 72nd annual Cannes Film Festival kick started on 14th May in Cannes, France. It is a 12 day film festival which brings diverse film makers from across the world at the beautiful background of French Riviera and provide them with a unified platform to showcase their work. The opening ceremony is screened in cinema houses all across France for people to view the excitement of the famous opening ceremony. This year around 600 cinema houses ran the opening ceremony live.
The master of ceremonies, actor and director Edouard Baer welcomed the competition jury. It was chaired by Mexican director, Alejandro González Iñárritu. The festival was officially declared open by Charlotte Gainsbourg and Javier Bardem. It was then followed by a screening of Jim Jarmusch’s dark zombie comedy, The Dead Don’t Die. It is the first film to be screened this year and compete for the prestigious Palme d’or.
Other than the showcasing of world class cinema, the film festival also is a place where artists from all across the world dress up to the galas. Magnificent gowns, luxurious jewelry, dashing tuxedos and blazer are all on display. Fashion houses start preparing to design their celebs months in advance for this prestigious festival and this opening ceremony did not disappoint at all.
