Lara Croft has been played by Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander on the big screen, and now Sophie Turner is taking on the iconic character for a new live-action series heading to Prime Video.
Amazon MGM Studios and Prime Video television head Vernon Sanders called Lara Croft “one of the most recognizable and iconic video game characters of all time,” saying the series would honour the Tomb Raider legacy while delivering fresh adventures to fans worldwide.

In January 2026, Prime Video announced a major expansion to the ensemble cast. Sigourney Weaver joined the series as Evelyn Wallis, a newly created character, and Jason Isaacs was cast as Atlas DeMornay, Lara’s uncle.
The Cast
Turner is set to star as Lara Croft. “I am thrilled beyond measure to be playing Lara Croft,” she said in a September 2025 statement, acknowledging the weight of following Jolie and Vikander. “They’re massive shoes to fill… but with Phoebe at the helm, we are all in very safe hands.” Amazon and Turner shared the first look at her in the role in January 2026.
The ensemble cast has since grown considerably. Sigourney Weaver joins as Evelyn Wallis, a newly created character, while Jason Isaacs plays Atlas DeMornay, Lara’s uncle. Franchise familiar faces are also represented — Martin Bobb-Semple as Lara’s longtime ally Zip, and Bill Paterson as the Croft family butler Winston. Rounding out the cast are Jack Bannon as Lara’s pilot Gerry, John Heffernan as government official David, Celia Imrie as a British Museum executive, Paterson Joseph as senior government official Thomas Warner, and Juliette Motamed as museum curator Georgia.
Behind the Scenes
Phoebe Waller-Bridge — the creator of Fleabag and Killing Eve — is serving as creator, writer, executive producer and co-showrunner alongside Chad Hodge. Jonathan van Tulleken, known for Shōgun and Top Boy, is directing and executive producing. “It’s not very often you get to make a show of this scale with a character you grew up loving,” Waller-Bridge said. “Get your artifacts out… Croft is coming.”
Production Update
Filming began in January 2026, but as of March 30 has temporarily paused after Turner suffered an injury. The studio confirmed she experienced “a minor injury” and that production had briefly stopped as a precaution. The shutdown is expected to last around two weeks, with crew members being paid throughout. The cause of the injury has not been confirmed.
