Recently, Richard Simmons created a lot of attention on social media. A mysterious remark posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, left many users perplexed and alarmed. The well-known fitness legend, noted for his colorful character and his well-liked “Sweatin’ to the Oldies” exercise videos from the ’70s and ’80s, had many users worried.

Simmons teased big news in his message and urged people not to be depressed. But when he brought up the subject of mortality, his remarks took an unexpected turn, as he said, “I am… dying.” Many were confused by Simmons’ statement as to whether she was making light of the fleeting nature of life or disclosing a serious medical condition. The confusion remained even after more tweets with health advice were posted.

A few hours later, Simmons tried to set the record straight with a second tweet, apologizing for any angst that may have been created. He explained that the purpose of his initial tweet was not to indicate a health crisis, but rather to encourage gratitude for every day.

Simmons’s representative, Tom Estey, told CNN that Simmons is in good health and that the post is meant to inspire rather than scare.
