Jake Gyllenhaal’s Staph Infection: Jake Gyllenhaal recently discussed the challenges that arose during filming the next “Road House” remake, which is set to be released this Thursday.

In the most recent episode of “Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard,” Gyllenhaal discussed how he hurt his hand filming a fight sequence for the film, which also stars Conor McGregor and Daniela Melchior.

According to him, “We’re grappling on the floor, maneuvering around tables, even amidst breakaway glass.” He went on to describe the violent sequence. Gyllenhaal regrettably suffered a serious injury as his hand came into contact with actual glass. Thinking back on it, he remembered how the glass had sliced through his flesh.

After the scene, Gyllenhaal’s arm swelled to a dangerous size, which may have been caused by a staph infection or another strenuous scene.

Despite everything, Gyllenhaal was thankful that he had avoided serious injuries, which he credited to the production crew’s dedication to safety.

The new “Road House” starring Jake Gyllenhaal and directed by Doug Liman reimagines the role of Elwood Dalton, played by Patrick Swayze. The 1989 action thriller was met with mixed reviews at the box office, but thanks to Patrick Swayze’s star power, it became a home video smash.

Concerns about the new adaptation’s reception persist as its release date draws near. Notable public flops have dogged the film’s production thus far, with original screenplay writer R. Lance Hill suing Amazon Studios for copyright infringement. There are now doubts over the completion date and ownership of rights due to this legal dispute.

In addition, the filmmakers’ choice to bypass the conventional theater premiere in favor of an Amazon direct-to-streaming release has caused quite a stir. Liman went to the SXSW screening even though he was first apprehensive about embracing this strategy.

In “Road House,” Gyllenhaal plays a character whose fate is up in the air due to distribution issues and ongoing legal fights. Some optimism for the project’s success can be found in Gyllenhaal’s commitment to it and the tenacity of the production crew, despite the obstacles.

Gyllenhaal discusses his on-set injuries in an interview with the “Armchair Expert” podcast, which can be heard beginning at the 50:51 minute if you’re interested.
