Elon Musk Whines About ‘Woke’ Oscars & People Won’t Stop Roasting Him
Recently, Elon Musk used his platform to share his thoughts on the Academy Awards, expressing his doubts about the importance of winning an Oscar. As he put it, winning an Oscar in this day and age may represent success in a “woke contest.” While Musk’s initial criticism was harsher, comparing an Oscar victory to being the “best Quisling,” he then softened his tone to paint the ceremony as a woke cultural battle.
In reaction to debates about the Academy prizes’ diversity, equality, and inclusion (DEI) policies, Musk voiced his belief that the significance of prizes is diminished when they are watered down to meet specific standards. He implied that an overemphasis on diversity initiatives could dilute the respect that comes with cinema prizes by downplaying their significance on merit and excellence. Musk later acknowledged the diversity among Oscar winners, showing a readiness to change his former views, despite his initial attitude.
On social media, Musk’s comments sparked debate, with some people critiquing his portrayal of the Oscars as “woke.” An executive producer of “Modern Family,” Danny Zuker, was among others who weighed in on Musk’s remarks and offered their thoughts.
