Despite stepping back from Hollywood, Paltrow remains deeply involved with goop, which has grown from a humble newsletter into a brand synonymous with clean beauty, luxury wellness, and viral products.
From Toy Store to Boardroom: Paltrow’s Path to Power
Paltrow’s first job? A stock girl at Penny Whistle Toys on Madison Avenue. But seventh-grade Gwyneth didn’t know to ask for time off before heading on spring break—so she got fired.
That early misstep didn’t derail her drive. Now, she runs a company that spans beauty, fashion, food, and retail, and she calls it the most dynamic and rewarding job she’s ever had.
“I’ve had to learn so much, it’s so creative, and it also requires so much discipline and ongoing education.”
Post-#MeToo Hollywood and a Return to Film
After years away from acting, Paltrow stars in Josh Safdie’s “Marty Supreme”, hitting screens this December. Returning to set felt natural, she says, and she’s noticed a positive shift in the industry.
“It probably feels a little bit healthier, like maybe more protective… In a post-#MeToo world, people are thoughtful about how to progress.”
The Candle That Launched a Thousand Headlines
Paltrow also addressed her infamous candle, “This Smells Like My Vagina.” While the item was undeniably polarizing, she stands firm in her approach to controversy.
“If you are living in integrity… you move through controversy. Most of the time, it’s projected on you. It does pass very quickly.”
And yes—she’s toying with the idea of bringing the candles back. Just maybe with a tamer scent next time.
Inside Her Daily Beauty Ritual
The latest addition to goop Beauty is the 3x Retinol Eye Lift Serum ($88), targeting fine lines around the eyes. Paltrow says it’s formulated with peptides to be gentle, yet effective.
Her full skincare lineup—now available as a bundle called The goop Face—includes:
-
Cloudberry Exfoliating Jelly Cleanser
-
Youth-Boost Peptide Serum
-
Microderm Instant Glow Exfoliator
-
All-in-One Nourishing Face Cream
-
Retinol-based serums for nighttime repair
What’s Next for goop?
Paltrow’s focus for 2025? Expansion. goop is opening new retail stores and goop Kitchen locations, growing the G. Label fashion line, and continuing to lead in the clean beauty space.
“It feels fun and light and exciting, and I just want to keep growing.”
