Fourth of Fashion by Gareen Darakjian

Jul 03

Wearing red, white and blue from head-to-toe does not a good American make! You can still fête the fourth dressed in patriotic garb that doesn’t scream “kitsch.” Modern nautical prints, clean, crisp lines and updated color palettes capture the essence of the simplicity of Americana without overdoing the theme. Experiment with crimsons and burgundies, linens and ivories and blueberries and ceruleans for a stylish take on a very traditional motif. Here are a few pieces for inspiration:

Anna Sui and Gossip Girl equals to…Target?!-By Catherine Shen

Jul 01

Target is gearing up for the fall season with a collection inspired by the hit TV series Gossip Girl and ultra-hip designer Anna Sui.

Following the footsteps of Alexander McQueen, Miss Sui’s new collection with hints of S, B, V and J will hit stores and online from September 13 through October 17.

“I have always been a fan of designer partnerships with mass retailers,” Sui told WWD exclusively. “I think it is a great way to bring fashion to everyone. I love Go International and was intrigued with Target’s new take on designer partnerships. It’s a fresh approach. I was able to select a muse or source of creative inspiration to focus the collection around. It is an exciting challenge to try and interpret my aesthetic into a mass-produced product with a specific inspirational source as the focus.”

Target seems eager to be the next “It” place for “It” girls to shop at. Which isn’t surprising considering we are tripping all over the place to find high fashion at lower prices. And with most pieces running at under $50, it’s not exactly a hard choice to make.

The only hard part is having to wait until September for the collection to hit select stores and new episodes of GG to start their third season.

What do you think? Is the new GG collection worth a try or simply a pass like one of Chuck’s ever passing femme fatales?

XOXO.

ACNE, and it’s NOT a Skin Problem-By Catherine Shen

Jun 30

When I hear Acne, the first thing that pops (pardon the pun) into my head is those horrible teenage years when the hormones raged like crazy. In fact, I am still haunted by the occasional drop ins we all hate.

acne

But don’t worry, this has nothing to do with pimples. ACNE is a Swedish label made famous by their denim, and now they are focusing on creating a line of effortless, I-just-woke-up-and-threw-on-whatever-was-on-the-floor-look that will most certainly sweep across America.

acne1

“Fashion is the best form of self-expression. We like to design pieces that together form the coolest wardrobe, but is ultimately wearable. It becomes one way of thinking as individual pieces, but together creates a strong, modern and considered statement.” explains Jonny Johansson, Acne’s Creative Director (acnestudios.com)

acne2

It is subtle, understated, but loud enough to catch your attention. Cool and speculative, it is not too dominating and everything is effortless chic. It’s very hard to resist, especially with the professional hectic and socially overwhelmed lives we all lead, who can resist a line of clothing that can create a rolling out of bed look and yet make people envious of us?

Acne is definitely not a skin problem, but a bank account problem. Good thing the line won’t be hitting the states for a few months; this gives us all a change to save up for the effortless style we all covet!

King of Pop, King of Fashion-By Catherine Shen

Jun 29

There is no one else in this universe who can make a bigger statement in music and fashion than Michael Jackson (No, not even Madonna). He was one of a kind, a single gem amongst the world, quite literally, with his bold fashion choices and shimmering diamonds ubiquitously shining from his on and off stage attires.

From the time the single glove was worn on stage, to the moment he moon walked across the stage in black loafers, fans all over the world emanated the King of Pop. However impractical most of his fashion choices were, just to get a feel of how it feels to be Michael Jackson, was enough.

He made red, zipped up military jackets to be an “ok” thing to wear on a daily basis. He favored clothes with clean lines, defined shoulders and fitted waistlines. Sparkly white socks paired with cropped tuxedo pants are cool, and how can anyone forget his signature dark, black curly hair as he gets audiences to moonwalk to his tunes.

Jackson had the ability to transform anything ordinary into something extraordinary, turning fantasy into fashion. Although he has been criticized in recent years for his more eccentric choices; pajama bottoms, black masks and arm bands, no one else can turn the world around his fingers as easily as he can.

Marquis and Camus-By Catherine Shen

Jun 25

The Victorian era always had a special charm for me. Jane Austen, The Bronte Sisters, and the bleak Dickens however dark, still romantic. How can anyone not fall for a good romance? Forget Mr. Darcy, it’s time for Marquis and Camus to really show how to woo a modern woman.
9sgn02
Established in the Fall of 2006, Marquis and Camus brings back history to the modern era by creating a collection that will take your breath away. It is timeless, classic and traditional in a non-sufforcating way. Rather, it is refreshing, a chance to visit the past without feeling too old. The alluring vintage pieces takes you down the same path Elizabeth from Pride and Prejudice does, or perhaps Jane Eyre while she falls for the ever enigmatic Mr. Rochester. Either way, love is in the air, no matter how cynical one can be.
zlc02b
Each delicate piece presents a classic, antiquated object; a pocket watch, a bowtie or buttons. Dark ribbons, lace and leather all combined into a piece of artwork. A mix of vintage and contemporary, perfect for any city slicker or country gal. It will definitely make a statement and elicit conversation everywhere you go.

Who knows? Mr. Darcy might just be around the corner.

Taking “Lounging” to a Whole New Level-By Catherine Shen

Jun 24

After work, you’re exshausted. How badly do you want to just rip off your heavy suit jacket and boring A-line skirt and slip into something comfortable like your college tee and holey sweatpants? Very badly. But I say nip the oversized college shirt and change it up with something sexy and sweet with Kriss Soonik Lingerie.
_mg_6412-31
The first lingerie brand to hail all the way from Estonia, Kriss Soonik Lingerie focuses on comfort without taking away any sexiness that inherently comes with the term: lingerie. Influenced by Japanese female super heroes, they are girly yet tough, sexy yet without being too trashy. It is perfect for those who are not sure if this is the type of thing one would be into, you can choose from a wide variety of selections such as a silky, sheer peach colored top or a silk wrap that doesn’t scream polyester.
_mg_6457-39
They have gorgeous baby doll tops with princess puff sleeves and tiny ribbons embellishing the front. Very whimsical and fairy tale like, with a hint of come hither, my darling.
dianapedg1
Floaty nightgowns with ruffles, royal robes or peek-a-boo knickers, which ever you choose to don on, rest assure you will feel comfortable and gorgeous. Needless to say, the outfit probably wouldn’t stay on long anyway.
